SAM’S TRIP TO THE GULF COAST - Where There’s A Need There’s A Seed

SHARE THE BOUNTY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – Since February, 2003, volunteers for UUCC's Share the Bounty Program have delivered Panera's leftover bread to area shelters, food programs, and charities. Without UUCC, all of that food would be thrown in the trash! Without UUCC, hundreds of Richmond residents would not have access to this healthy food. Interested in making a commitment to feed the needy? The Share the Bounty Program needs YOU!

Volunteer forms are available on the Social Action Ministry bulletin board in the UUCC lobby; or, contact Montana Higgins at T.MHiggins@verizon.net.

FREECYCLE - is an organization that was started by a group in Tucson, Arizona in 2003 in an effort to reduce the amount of household items going into landfills. It has grown to more than half a million members in the U.S. - including over 3,600 folks in the Richmond area alone.

HELP REDUCE LANDFILL WASTE, REDUCE CLUTTER IN YOUR HOME, MEET NICE PEOPLE AND GET GREAT FREE STUFF !!!

If this sounds like a good deal to you, UUCC's Social Action Ministry urges you to sign on to Richmond's Freecycle group. It's simple - on the website people list items that they wish to give away. Many people post things like bikes, clothes, books, VCRs, TVs, washing machines, sofas, tables, even tickets to sports events and concerts that they can't use. Other people who are interested in having the item respond by e-mail. The poster decides who to give it to - they correspond and arrange for the person to pick up the item at a mutually agreeable time.

It's simple and free to join. Go to www.freecycle.org , then click on "U.S.Southern" on the left side of your screen. Scroll down to "Virginia", then find " Richmond". Click to join. You will have a free Yahoo account and can monitor your e-mail preferences as you wish. Some people choose to get messages from the volunteer moderator only. Some people don't want any e-mail at all from Freecycle - they prefer to check the site periodically. It's up to you. It's fun, it's free and it helps the environment - it doesn't get much better than that!

FAIR TRADE COFFEE - As of May 11, 2003, UUCC is officially serving only organic, shade-grown, fair-trade coffee at Fellowship Hour. This coffee has many advantages: it's environmentally friendly, it guarantees farmers a fair price for their product, and it tastes great! Further, 5% of all of our purchases are automatically donated to the Unitarian Universalist Service commitee's projects in coffee-growing regions. For more information, go to http://www.equalexchange.com/interfaith.

In order to offset the cost of switching to fair-trade coffee, SAM is selling a variety of fair-trade and organic coffees and cocoa for you to use at home! This coffee is reasonably priced for extremely high quality coffee. This is the link to the order form. Just print it out and give it to one of us on Sunday. If you prefer, it is available in Microsoft Word format here.
