Annual Events
UUCC may be a relatively young church, but we have our traditions. Here are several of our annual events that bring us together to celebrate transitions, raise money and just to have some good old fun.
- The Almost Anything Goes Auction is held each November. Offering silent and live auctions, food, and fellowship, the event brings the congregation together for an evening of excitement that is talked about throughout the year.
- The youth of UUCC (YRUU) prepare and present a service once a year. This annual event is eagerly anticipated by the congregation and always provides a fresh perspective through their eyes.
- Canvass is our yearly celebration of our financial commitment to UUCC in the spring. It is not just a pledge drive, but also a way for members and friends to connect at informal events such as cafés, potlucks and visits.
- The Flower Communion is a beautiful way for our congregation to link to our Unitarian Universalist heritage and celebrate our shared search for truth disregarding our differences. Participants bring a flower to the service and all the flowers are put in a common vase to form a beautiful bouquet. At the end of the service, each participant picks a different flower from the bouquet to take home.
- Each spring as the school year comes to an end, we send off our high school seniors off as a community in a Bridging Ceremony. Walking under a symbolic bridge of congregants’ arched hands with our younger religious education participants at one end and young adults at the other, we wish those finishing high school well in their post-secondary education endeavors.
- Our land is important to us and we celebrate its sacredness and our community together with an overnight camp out and retreat. A fun way for everyone to experience the great outdoors on a sultry summer evening, some stay for a little while; others stay the night. The morning includes food, of course, and an outdoor service with the entire congregation.
- As the summer ends and it is time to settle back into the rhythm of autumn, UUCC celebrates the transition with the Water Ceremony. Friends and Members bring water back from their exotic trips or backyard garden hoses and mingle the waters. This water is used for other ceremonies such as baby dedications throughout the year.
- Halloween is a fun time for our youth and adults alike. A harvest party is held in our sanctuary with great food, games and even dancing sometimes. As night falls, a blazing fire is built outside and many of our talented story tellers share Halloween tales.
