Children's Education

Our Commitment

Children are central to our life here at UUCC, and we care deeply about our ministry to them. We are committed to creating a welcoming place where children learn to celebrate themselves, each other, and the diverse world around them. We have a Director of Religious Education who welcomes your thoughts and concerns and questions.

Our Children and Youth in Worship

Our children are to be heard, seen, and celebrated. We put this into practice several ways at UUCC. During Sunday services, there is a time during the service where children are invited “down front” for a special story and lesson just for them and the young at heart in our congregation. We call this the Message for All Ages. In addition, there are special, multigenerational services throughout the year specifically geared toward our children and youth.

Our Children and Youth in Class

Following the Message for All Ages in the service, the children are sent downstairs with a song.  Adult volunteers, who sign a Code of Ethics each year, teach the religious education classes.  Curricula vary by year, but overall provide teachings in ethics and values, Unitarian Universalism and world religions. At the early service, there is a mixed ages class with older children helping as teaching assistants. At the later service, there are a pre-k to second grade class, a third to fifth grade class, JRYRUU (middle school) and YRUU (high school).  During the summer there is a mixed ages class with a central theme.
