MUSICAL GROUPS
Harmony in Action Music energizes everything we do at UUCC. It’s how we amplify our message, find joy in mid-week rehearsals, and show up for one another in the Richmond area. Whether it’s a soaring piano solo from our Music Director or a collaborative ensemble performance, we believe in the power of sound to uplift and unite.
Music for Life’s Moments Our talented singers and instrumentalists are honored to support our community through all of life’s seasons—celebrating in times of joy and providing comfort during times of sorrow.
Sanctuary Choir:

Your Voice Belongs Here Love to sing? We’d love to hear you! Our choir brings soulful, topical music to our services once or twice a month, and our doors are always open to new singers.
Whether you’re a seasoned vocalist or haven’t read music since middle school, there is a chair waiting for you. Come as you are, find your range, and join the harmony.

Cauthorne Consort Recorder Ensemble:

The Cauthorne Consort: A Renaissance of Sound The Cauthorne Consort brings the timeless beauty of village and classical recorder music to life. Performing throughout Central Virginia, our ensemble—featuring soprano, alto, tenor, and bass recorders—graces Sunday services, weddings, and local celebrations with an authentic, historical sound.
Join the Ensemble We are always looking for experienced recorder players who read music to join our ranks. If you’re looking for a sophisticated group to practice and perform with, we’d love to meet you.

Find Your Rhythm Our drumming ensemble is the heartbeat of UUCC, bringing energy and soul to every corner of our church life. Whether we’re adding a pulse to the Hymn Jammers during Sunday services, creating a meditative atmosphere for Labyrinth Walks, or sharing songs around our backyard firepit, there is always a place for you in the circle.
We have a variety of percussion instruments ready for you to use—including our unique, melodic HAPI drums. No experience is necessary; just bring your hands and your heartbeat!
The music program is always interested in adding new participants as well as hearing new ideas. Please email Jonathan Corey to add your voice!
More groups for kindred creatives
Visual Artists:

An ongoing display of visual art enhances the spiritual atmosphere of our worship space. Artists in our congregation and community are invited to contribute to our Sanctuary Arts Gallery. Reach out to our helpful curators.
Play Readers:

Develop your dramatic skills and make new friends at our monthly informal play-reading gatherings. Theater folks who enjoy performing have opportunities to share short pieces at our Open Mic Showcase, worship services, and readers’ theater performances. Ask for the Play Readers’ leader at church or let Jonathan Corey know you’re interested in an email.
Creative Writers:

The Chickahominy Grits Wordcrafters (Grits) want to grow! This writers’ group is open to those in our UU church community who love to write and hang out with other literary folks. For more information about our literary activities, email Jonathan Corey, and a Grit will reach out to you. Better yet, on Sunday morning, ask a Hymn Jammer. Many of us are writers, too.
Open Mic Performers:

Musicians, singers, storytellers, actors, dancers, magicians, and poets in our UU congregation share their creative talents at our Open Mic Showcases. Contact our Music & Arts Committee through Jonathan. Or, ask any dramatic reader, singer, or musician on Sunday about how you can be part of the fun.
