At UUCC, we are a community that strives to put our values into practice by showing up for one another. Our Care Ministry provides presence, outreach, and practical support to members and friends across the greater Richmond area, especially during times of life transition, joy, or sorrow.

Our care network is woven together by four cooperative pillars, helping our church reach out in Love, Wonder, and Connection:

  • Ministerial & Lay Pastoral Care: Our minister provides pastoral care during times of deep need. Working alongside our minister are Lay Pastoral Associates, who are trained in compassionate listening. They are available to walk with you through difficult times, offering a confidential, supportive, and tangible connection to the church.
  • The Care Committee: This team coordinates our community’s response to life’s joys and sorrows. Members rotate serving as Monthly Care Coordinators, helping organize tangible support when it is needed most.
  • Neighborhood Groups: Because our congregation lives all around the Richmond metro area, everyone is assigned by zip code to a Neighborhood Group. Led by local coordinators, these groups help neighbors easily connect with, check on, and support one another right where they live.
  • Comfort & Creative Ministries: Care at UUCC comes in many beautiful forms. Our Prayer Shawl Ministry provides hand-knitted, quilted, and crocheted shawls and lap blankets to bring physical comfort to those experiencing serious illness or grief. Even our youngest members participate, with UUCC children creating handmade chalices and artwork to share their love and care with the community.

Need Support? If you or someone you know is experiencing a life challenge, a time of grief, or a moment of celebration, please reach out. We are here to listen and help.

We need one another, and UUCC’s Care Ministry is built upon this understanding. Joys shared are multiplied; sorrows shared are lessened. When we are present with one another in worship, song, learning, and fellowship, we express care.
